| Yardney cooling side stream recycle sand media systems are designed specifically for the filtration of cooling tower water. Suspended solid contaminants in cooling towers reduce the heat transfer capability and increase plant-operating costs. Plated out dirt, sand, algae, slime and other contaminants insulate heat exchanger tubes and cause excessive water and chemical consumption. This results in clogged heat exchanger tubes, high blow down rates, premature tube replacement, increased pressure loss and dramatically increased maintenance costs.
Yardney cooling tower side steam filtration systems are designed to remove inorganic and organic suspended solids continuously using an automatically controlled backwashing system. This automation is controlled both by elapsed time as well as by pressure differential. When the controller "calls" for a backwash as a result of pressure differential or elapsed time, thebackwashing function utilizes a portion of the clean filtered water produced by the system to backwash the media. Single tank systems use the filtered tower water for backwashing. Optional external backwash water sourcing systems are available for both single and multiple tank systems.
Pre-packaged filtration systems include pump and motor, automatic controls, automatic valving, all piping and the filtration media. All units are industrial quality construction, ASME Code or non-code, and are fusion bonded epoxy lined with 3M Scotchkote® 134. Flow rates and filtration levels are specified to meet cooling tower application needs. Single tank and multiple tank systems are available from stock. Systems should be sized to turn-over the wet capacity of the tower system once per hour. Large basins, or in-line applications, should be sized to filter 5% - 10% of the process flow. In extremely large applications turnover rates through the filters may be extended to once every 24 hours.
